Support for LGBTQ+ rights

Human rights are a supreme value, without mutual respect, our societies have no future. Equality policies in Kraków are built in an interdisciplinary, open and transparent manner.

Among the moments important to us was the declaration in July 2020, when the Mayor of the City of Krakow, Jacek Majchrowski, declared Krakow's support to the LGBT community and opposition to homophobia and other forms of discrimination. The appeal was addressed to the LGBT community and was made in the face of deepening homophobic media statements in Poland, as well as unconstitutional resolve of some local governments creating in our country the so-called LGBT free zones.

On October 10, 2020, on the International Coming Out Day, the facade of our Congress Center lit up in rainbow colors, in a gesture of solidarity and support for the LGBTQIA community. In 2022 on #IDAHOT on City Hall building rainbow flag was presented in support for community. The President also took patronage over the equality march in recent years.

Equality May, we plan every year is a cultural festival organised with several dozen municipal cultural institutions and organizations. All meetings scheduled in May addressed anti-discrimination and human rights issues.

Also every year, on the International Human Rights Day Krakow organizes special event - key streets and squares in Krakow change their names to those that carried an message promoting human rights.
