Krakow joined the ICORN International Cities of Refuge Network in 2011 as the first city in Central and Eastern Europe. In 2013, our city hosted the international conference "Writing Freedom" prepared in cooperation with ICORN and PEN International WiPC (Writers in Prison Committee). In 2021, Krakow joined the Intercultural Cities (ICC) program.

In 2022 we also joioned The Femcities network, which was was initiated in 1997 by Vienna as a cooperation platform for central and eastern European cities. The aim of the network is to bring cities and regions together, while developing urban equality policies and advancing women's rights at a local level. Continuous exchange of good practice and experience enables the members to develop equality projects and create more sustainable, effective solutions.

Kraków joined the network as a result of the implementation of the European Charter for Equality of Women and Men in Local Life, which defines the scope of cities' commitment to supporting gender equality. The Charter also obliges signatories to take participate in international projects in the field. Kraków's participation in the network is coordinated by Nina Gabryś Plenipotentiary of the Mayor of the City of Kraków for Equality Policy,.
